Type "online claw machine" into Google and you'll get a handful of sites claiming you can control a real arcade machine from your phone. It sounds like it shouldn't work. A camera feed, a joystick made of on-screen buttons, and somehow a real claw drops into a pile of real prizes hundreds of miles from wherever you're sitting. We get asked about this a lot, so here's the honest version of what's going on.
There's an actual machine in a real room
This is the bit people are most sceptical about, and fair enough. At Claw Catcher, every game you play is a physical claw machine sitting in a real location, not a simulation dressed up to look like one. When you load a game, you're looking at a live video feed from a camera mounted above (or beside) the machine. The joystick on your screen sends real commands to a real motor. When the claw drops, it drops because you told it to, not because an animation ran.
The main technical challenge isn't the claw itself, machines have worked the same way since the 1980s. It's getting your input from a browser to a motor in another building with as little lag as possible, and getting the video back to you fast enough that it still feels responsive. That's the actual engineering problem, and it's most of what our infrastructure is built around.
Skill, not chance
We keep the mechanics skill-based on purpose. There's no random draw deciding who gets a catch and who doesn't, your grip strength, claw position, and timing decide the outcome, every time. That matters to us for two reasons. First, it's a better game, if you get better at reading the claw's grip and the angle of approach, you'll catch more. Second, it keeps things straightforward: no odds, no draws, just you against the mechanics of an actual claw.
What happens when you catch something
Every catch adds to your Claw Collection, your running record of what you've pulled off across every machine you've played. Some catches are physical items that get posted out. Others live in your collection as a mark of the catch itself, alongside your growing set of avatar unlocks and your place on the leaderboard. We're expanding this side of things regularly, so there's more reason to come back than just seeing what's in the machine today.
Free plays, bundles, and Claw Cup
You get free daily plays just for showing up. If you want more, you can buy a bundle, or join Claw Cup for regular plays without topping up each time. Either way, the machine doesn't care how you got your go, the claw responds exactly the same.
Try it yourself
The best way to understand any of this is to actually see it. Load up a machine, watch the live feed for a second before you move, and you'll notice the small delay between your input and the claw's response, that's the real-world latency, not a bug. Play now and see what all this looks like in practice.
